Meet Kushal Chakrabarti: Opendoor’s New VP of Research & Data Science

December 1, 2020 — Written by Ian Wong

Data is at the heart of everything we do. Behind our world-class pricing capabilities lies a massive amount of data. We design algorithms to infer the value of millions of homes throughout the United States in order to deliver the convenience and trust that home sellers have come to expect from Opendoor. Throughout our company, we make hundreds of data-informed decisions every day. Our teams use everything from causal inference to structural econometric models to deep learning to drive forward Opendoor’s state of the art.

This is why I’m thrilled to announce the addition of Kushal Chakrabarti as our new VP of Research & Data Science.

Even from our first meeting, what stood out with Kushal was his mastery of both the technical nuances and the business problems we are working to solve. I’ve seen this in action every day while he’s been an advisor at Opendoor over the past few months. He’s endlessly curious and relentless in tackling hard problems.

Kushal has the mix of experience and drive that we look for at Opendoor. He has led mission-critical data science teams at Amazon, and has founded two high-growth companies. He got his start working with large-scale statistical models at UC Berkeley, and he’s the author of numerous patents and publications.

At Opendoor, Kushal will oversee all of our product analytics and data science efforts. His team will work across product, engineering, operations and design, providing the actionable insights that will enable us to serve our customers better and push forward the state of the art in pricing.

I am very excited working more closely with Kushal as Opendoor continues to grow and evolve!
